MY TIME IS NOW
I wrote this poem as an anthem in the spring of 2022. In 2021, I lost my wife of 45 years to cancer. The family home we lived in for over 30 years, with all that required sorting through the past, a decision to sell our 36-year-old business before our planned time. I lost the two main fabrics of my life to cancer and the passing of my wife. Forward, always forward, was a line I used in business. The other problem is that problems are opportunities…find the opportunity and take hold of it. Out of the ashes of all this, a writing career started—a new life built with a new partner. In darkness, there can be light.
My longing soul is searching for days not yet upon me
Once the skin of a babe…now a vision of experience
Eyes knowing loss…intertwined memories guide always
Slew a hundred dragons and demons, no festering wounds
Time no longer seems endless…a clock…tick…tick…tick
What will be written off the full measure of my days
I am a warrior…rise and face new challenges always
A legacy and a noble act yet to complete before darkness
The abundance of life has not yet fully satisfied my soul.
I look upon the rising morning sun with passionate envy
Millions more days yet to swaddle Earth in luminescence
I once more strap on my armour…renewed and clean
My sword unsheathed…my steed awaits impatiently
I no longer require an emblem on a shield to protect me
My steed rears, nostrils flared, ready to challenge all
A raging gallop…future passing on my feet, not knees,
Forward…always forward…my path is valid and known
In the distance awaits a challenger… With resolve, I advance
To relish and cherish the battles yet to come…I am alive
